This marks a continuation of Shericka Jackson’s absence from the track this season, following her earlier withdrawals from the Miramar Invitational two weeks ago and at least one local meet in Jamaica in March. Her withdrawal adds to the list of top-tier athletes stepping back from early competitions, leaving Sha’Carri Richardson, the 100m World Champion, as the prominent name still set to compete in Suzhou.
Faith Kipyegon out of Xiamen Diamond League
In related news, several world champions have also withdrawn from the Xiamen Diamond League event on April 20. Among them are Faith Kipyegon, the 1500m world champion, and Winfred Yavi, who excels in the 3000m steeplechase.
Other notable withdrawals include Alexis Holmes and Stephenie Ann McPherson, both slated for the 400m, Ryiem Forde in the 100m, and Kurtis Marschall, who has suffered an injury at the nationals, affecting his participation in the pole vault event.
These series of withdrawals underscore the challenges faced by athletes in maintaining peak physical condition amidst the demanding international track and field circuit.
