MONACO – The World Athletics Council has agreed on modifications to its regulations for athletes with differences of sexual development (DSD) and decided to bar specific transgender athletes from female World Rankings competition.

The updated regulations require DSD athletes to maintain testosterone levels below 2.5 nmol/L for at least 24 months to qualify for international competition in the female category for all events. The previous rules only applied to select events from 400 meters to one mile, and the principle of restricted events has been abolished.
In addition, the Council has resolved to exclude male-to-female transgender athletes who have undergone male puberty from female World Rankings competition as of March 31, 2023.
