Fred Kerley led a USA sweep of the men’s 100m medals on Saturday’s (16 July) second day of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Fred Kerley won the gold medal in 9.86, leading a USA medal sweep with Marvin Bracy getting silver and Trayvon Bromell bronze, both crossing the finish line in 9.89.
Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, the second slowest from the blocks, finished strong in 9.97 seconds.
The USA also swept the men’s 100 metres in 1983 and 1991.
The United States qualified four runners for the final, with Christian Coleman finishing 6th in 10.01. That has only happened twice – Jamaica in 2013 and the USA in 2015.

Bromell’s 9.88 for 3rd is the 2nd-fastest 3rd-place mark at the World Championships, after 9.84 by Asafa Powell (JAM) in 2009.
Kerley, who won bronze in the 400 metres at the 2019 World Championships, is the only man to win medals in the 100 and 400 metres.
This was the 11th gold medal for the USA in the event in 18 editions of the World Championships. Only Kenya, with 13 titles in men’s steeplechase, has won more gold medals in a single event.
The medal sweep gives the USA 28 medals in the men’s 100 metres, more than all other nations combined (27) (2 bronzes in 2015).
