Shericka Jackson wins women's 200m at NACAC Championships

Jamaican Shericka Jackson will run the women’s 200m at Sunday’s (4 July) Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden.

Jackson, fresh from her stunning performances at the Jamaica Olympic Trials where she ran 10.77 and 21.84, is the only one listed below 22 seconds this season.

Marie-Josée Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast has a season-best of 22.58 and a personal best of 22.08. She is the second-best on time to Jackson.

American Morolake Akinosun, however, is the second-fastest this season with 22.44. The time is also her personal best.

The meeting will be streamed live in a number of territories on the Wanda Diamond League YouTube page.

The men’s long jump includes Jamaica Doha 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle, who is 11th ranked in the world for 2021 with 8.27m. He will get competition from Cuban Juan Miguel Echevarria, who is fifth in the world this year with 8.38

The other Caribbean athletes down for the fifth Wanda Diamond League in 2021 are Danielle Thomas-Dodd, Kyron McMaster, Janieve Russell, Leah Nugent, Kirani James, Deon Lendore, Natoya Goule, Fedrick Dacres and Kemar Mowatt.

The Wanda Diamond League in Stockholm is a warm-up for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jackson, Dina Asher-Smith, Shaunae Miller-Uibo are expected for a massive sprint showdown. Sha’Carri Richardson, who was among the favourites, failed a drug test at the US Olympic Trials and will miss the event in Tokyo from July 23-Aug 8.
