Former Reggae Boyz player Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner has once again stepped up to the mic, but this time it’s for his first love, football.

The “Star Balla” partnered with Olympic athlete turned music producer Usain Bolt to produce two scorching new jingles for the Jamaica Premier League.

Produced on the Olympe Rose’ Riddim and the now trending Clock Work Riddim, both tracks are set to have football fans and music fans rocking and will definitely give the league an additional boost.

Gardner, the current coach for Portmore United FC, is no stranger to the music world and has been working in the studios with Usain Bolt and his team for a few years. The Olympe Rose’ riddim was first released in 2019 and featured multiple Jamaican artists, including the former Reggae Boyz.

In January 2021, the Olympian released his latest compilation on the Clock Work Riddim, which has received great reviews locally and internationally and features the likes of dancehall royalty Damian “Baby Cham” Beckett. The Jamaica Premier league is set to restart this weekend, starting Saturday, June 26th, after the COVID-19 pandemic brought football to a virtual standstill in Jamaica for over a year.

The league will restart with 11 clubs facing off in a compressed version of the league that will end in September. The restart of the league does come with some restrictions, including no fans in the stadium, and so fans will depend on television broadcast on Sportsmax and CVM TV to see the games.

In a joint statement, Usain Bolt and Ricardo Gardener noted that “producing and recording this jingle was an easy decision for us. We love sports, we love football, and we love music, and we wanted to give the fans something to get excited about.

“Football is an emotional experience, and we want the fans to still feel the energy even if they are not in the stands,” Professional Football Jamaica League Chairman Chris Williams noted that he was pleased that Bolt was able to lend his support to the league.

Usain Bolt is not just a track star, but he is a global brand, and his support of the league will certainly assist us in our effort to expand the impact of Jamaican football and the importance of the Jamaica Premier League.

The clubs will play their first matches this weekend inside the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence. On Saturday, Mount Pleasant faces Tivoli Gardens at 1 pm, and Cavaliers faces Humble Lion at 3:30 pm.

On Sunday, Portmore United faces Dunbleholden at 11 am and on Monday, Vere United faces Molynes at 1 pm, and Waterhouse faces Harbour View at 3:30 pm.
