EUGENE, USA – Sha’Carri Richardson fulfilled her favourite role and won the 100m during Saturday’s (19 June) second day of the US Olympic trials.

Richardson ran 10.64, easing up some 20 metres from the line, into a tailwind of 2.6m/s. She returned in the final, again coming from behind to win in 10.86s (-1.0m/s).
Javianne Oliver, who ran 10.83 (+2.5m/s) in semis, ran 10.99 for second in the final. The third Tokyo qualifying spot went to Teahna Daniels in 11.03. The first two non-qualifiers individually are Jenna Prandini 11.11 and Gabby Thomas 11.15.
In the second final of the day, Valarie Allman won with a huge 69.92m discus mark and had all valid attempts to win. Second, Micaela Hazlewood achieved 62.54 PB but is not having the Olympic standard 63.50m and is also well below qualification in the World Rankings. Third Rachel Dincoff is ok with 60.21 and next with the standard in fifth Whitney Ashley 59.10.
Michael Cherry 44.50 and Quanera Hayes 50.07 were the fastest in the 400m semifinals for men and women. Bryce Hoppel 1:46.00 in 800m semifinals and Nikki Hiltz 4:05.87 in women 1500m semifinals.
Major names qualified
Garrett Scantling leads the decathlon after the first day with 4494 points. Trayvon Bromell clocked the fastest 100m heat time of 9.84 but aided by +2.7m/s. The fastest legal season-best for Ronnie Baker 9.88 (+1.9m/s). The first non-qualifier from heats was Bryce Robinson with 10.13.
Keni Harrison topped 100m hurdles first round with 12.49 (-0.3m/s), interesting to note PB for Taliyah Brooks 12.61 (+0.8m/s).
The fastest non-qualifier Dior Hall, 12.99 and not making it to the next round, was 2008 Gold medalist Dawn Harper-Nelson with 13.12.
Will Claye was the best in triple qualification 16.85 (+0.7m/s).
