NEW ORLEANS – Texas Track and Field sophomore Julien Alfred was named to The Bowerman’s 2020 Women’s Watch List, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday.

Wednesday marks Alfred’s first appearance on the watch list for Track and Field’s top collegiate honour. She is the seventh woman in school history – and third Longhorn under head coach Edrick Floréal – to appear on The Bowerman’s watch list, joining Teahna Daniels (2019), Destinee Hooker (2009 finalist), Courtney Okolo (2014 finalist, 2016 winner), Kaitlin Petrillose (2015), Ashley Spencer (2014) and Ashtin Zamzow (2019 semifinalist).

Texas’ seven watch-list representatives are tied for the fourth-most in the award’s history.

Alfred, a native of Castries, St. Lucia, currently holds the NCAA’s leading mark in the women’s 60-meter dash, clocking a school-record 7.10 at the Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., back on Jan. 25.

Her time is the No. 2 mark in the world this year, topped only by Mikiah Brisco’s 7.08 in the same race. Overall, Alfred has won five of the six 60-meter races she has competed in this season (3 prelims/3 finals). She has posted four of the nine fastest times in UT history so far this season.

The sophomore sprinter also holds the No. 4 time in the NCAA at 200 meters this season, clocking a 23.08 at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., last weekend. Her time made her the seventh-fastest performer in school history.

The USTFCCCA will unveil the men’s watch list on Thursday, Feb. 6. The next round of updates will be announced on March 4-5, after the Big 12 Championships and other conference meets have concluded. For more information, visit USTFCCCA.org/The-Bowerman.
