Jamaica’s World Youth bronze medallist, Kevona Davis, has withdrawn from this weekend’s (June 21-24) Jamaica Junior Championships.

Davis, who won bronze in the 100m at the 2017 World Youth Championships in Kenya, suffered a season-ending injury in training.

Michael Dyke, Davis’ high school coach, told The Gleaner “Kevona suffered a hamstring injury recently in training and it is in her best  interest to pull her out of the meet.”

Kevona Davis also missed Carifta Games in April

Davis, who also missed the Carifta Games in April, was in top form during last March Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships. After running 11.35 and 22.92 in the heats of the 100/200m class 2 sprints, she closed the show with 11.16 and 22.72, the latter mark is a Jamaica Youth record, in the finals.

She helped Edwin Allen to win the Championship of America 4x100m High School title at Penn Relays in April.

“She still has another chance to compete at the World Under-20 Championships in two year’s time and it is best not to risk her at this time,” Dyke was quoted as saying.
