Jamaica’s 2011 World Youth long jump champion Chanice Porter leapt to a personal best to take top honours at Saturday’s (5 May) Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens, Georgia, USA.
Porter, in just her second outdoor meet of the season, recorded 6.75m to beat her previous best mark of 6.67m, done in June 2016.
Bianca Stuart of Bahamas finished second with 6.66m while Kate Hall finished third, 6.63m.
The former Manchester High student, who has been fighting ankle issues over the years, was very grateful for her achievement.
“I want to thank God for bringing me this far because of my ankle issues,” Porter, whose winning mark came on her second attempt after fouling the first.
Her other two legal marks were 6.44m and 6.42m on the 3rd and 4th attempts respectively.
“It was a long time coming and getting a personal record after two years was a great feeling,” she told Trackalerts.com.
“Still have a lot of technical things to work on in practice,” she added.
