Taylor, Davis, Williams star at Carifta Trials

Christopher Taylor, Kevona Davis and Briana Williams were the stars of the four-day Jamaica Carifta Games Trials held at the National Stadium (Full Results).

Taylor of Calabar High won the Under-20 boy’s 200m dash in 20.42. The wind was positive 3.7m/s.

Davis was the Under-20 girl’s sprint double champion.

The Edwin Allen student won her 100m heats in 11.48, but ran slower, 11.63secs (-1.6m/s wind) on Saturday and returned to take the 200m in 23.11 (2.2m/s wind) on Sunday’s final day.

USA-based Williams won the Under-17 girls’ 100m and 200m finals in 11.53 and 23.24 respectively.

Calabar’s Dejour Russell ran 10.46 to take the Under-20 boy’s 100m.

KC’s Terrique Stennett topped the boys’ Under-17 event in 10.71 while Rajay Morris of Clarendon College took the 200m in 21.23.

Vere Tech’s Amoi Brown continued to show good form by taking the Under-20 girls’ 100m hurdles in 13.22 ahead of The Quuen’s School’s Daszay Freeman, 13.39 (2.6m/s wind). Britany Anderson was third in 13.41.

Sanique Walker of Vere Technical ran away with the Under-20 girls’ 400m hurdles in 57.19.

The 2018 Carifta Games will be held in Nassau, Bahamas from March 31 to April 2.

KC’s Dashawn Morris, 46.01 upstage Anthony Carpenter of Calabar, 46.19 in the Under-20 boys’ 400m final.

Hydel took 1-2 with Shiann Salmon, 52.73 and Charokee Young, 52.84 in the Under-20 girls’ event.

Shaquena Foote of Petersfield and Kimar Farquharson of Calabar were impressive in the Under-20 800m finals.

Foote topped the girls’ final in 2:06.26 while Farquharson ran 1:50.16 in the boys’ section.

Annia Ashley of Edwin Allen leapt 6.06m in the girls’ Under-20 long jump.
