Kemoy Campbell once again proved that in the men’s 5000m he is the Jamaican king.
He clocked a creditable time of 13.42.84, to win the event at the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Championships on Friday, July 1 at the National Stadium.
Campbell, who lapped all his competitors, at least once, finished ahead of Dwayne Graham, 15.42.64.
Third place went Robin Rowe, in 16.31.66 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the women’s discus, Tarasue Barnett of Grand Canyon University won her first national title.
Barnett threw 59.03 metres to beat Shadae Lawrence, a student at Kansas State University, 57.56m.
National record holder Kellion Knibb finished third with 57.56m.
Barnett said she came to trials with one aim.
“Coming here I just said to myself, Tara whatever they throw just finish in the top three,” she explained after entering with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifying mark.
Chanice Porter leapt 6.59m to win the women’s long jump. She beat Jessicca Noble 6.28m and Tricia Moss 6.13m.
In the Men’s 1500m, Giovani Mowatt came out on top in a time of 3.55.97 seconds, with Darryll Oliver, placing second, in 4.01.97.
Strymar Livington was the only man under 1:50 in the men’s 800m prelims. He leads the field into the final with 1:49.30.
Sakidi White, 1:50.69 and JoWayne Hibbert, 1:52.79 have the next best times.
