A large crowd was on hand at Wednesday's opening of the GC Foster College's newly relayed JA$170 synthetic track. BSW out of Germany won the bid for the job which was completed on time and without incident.
The thirty five year old institution was getting its second track after the old one was out of use for two years to the discomfort of the college, several meet organizers and schools who used it for training in preparation for competition.
Principal Dr. Joyce Graham-Royal who spoke after the cutting of the ribbon was elated to see the opening of the track in time for the new track and field season. She said that it will help the college to achieve its mission of producing world class coaches, teachers, athletes and recreational sports specialists.
She also addressed the fixing of the pool. She said that she intends to "jump in it" have it sorted out as soon as possible.
Maurice Wilson, who is Jamaica's technical leader at senior track and field events, head coach of Sprintec and the college as well as lecturer, welcomed the track. According to him all stakeholders will benefit from having the track in operation again.
