Powell finishes second to Gay, Gatlin cruises into final #Beijing2015

BEIJING, China – Jamaica’s Asafa Powell finished second to American Tyson Gay as the two qualified automatically for the final of the men’s 100 metres here at the World Championships on Sunday.

Gay was away early and Powell closed well as they did 9.96 seconds and 9.97 respectively. Jimmy Vicaut of France was third in 9.99.

Meanwhile, American Justin Gatlin showed that he will be hard to beat in the final of the 100 metres later on Sunday, when he sped to 9.77 seconds to win his semifinals heat.

Gatlin got a good start and powered away from his rivals for victory, as his teammate Mike Rodgers was second 9.86 and Femi Ogunode of Qatar third in 10.00.

Jamaica’s Nickel Ashmead finished a disappointed sixth in 10.06 seconds as Levi Cadogan of Barbados was eighth in 10.19.
