BEIJING, China – The Bird’s Nest will next week undergo an important test ahead of the August World Championships with the Beijing IAAF World Challenge Meet on May 20.
The meeting in its third edition will have last year’s fastest man US sprinter Justin Gatlin as the head-liner. One of his main rivals in the 100m will be another US sprinter Mike Rodgers.
In women’s sprint, Jamaican Olympic and World gold medalist Veronica Campbell-Brown is the top name.
The men’s 110m hurdles will see World champion David Oliver against Cuban Orlando Ortega.
In women’s high jump action, Russian Olympic winner Anna Chicherova is going to open her season.
Another interesting duel will be in the men’s long jump with reigning World gold medalist Aleksandr Menkov from Russia against current World leader Jeff Henderson of USA.
The women’s 400m hurdles will have 2009 World Champion Lashinda Demus as the top name.
