AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn track and field team opened the outdoor season on Friday at the Texas Relays, Alabama Invitational and Raleigh Relays.
“I thought it was a good day,” head coach Ralph Spry said. “We won our heat in the 4×100 relay and advanced to the final. I saw some good effort. I hope to get under 40 seconds in the 4×100 relay as it will be later in the afternoon. Joe Fisher a decent run in the 100m, and Parker Shearer did well in the decathlon. I’m excited for tomorrow as we have the 4×200 relay as well and we have our big group at Alabama competing.”
At the Texas Relays, the 4×100 relay team of Torrey Campbell, Joe Fisher, Teray Smith and Kahlil Henderson qualified forSaturday’s final with a time of 40.43. Fisher set a new personal record in the 100m with a time of 10.66.
Junior Parker Shearer set six personal bests in the decathlon. The Mobile, Ala., native clocked a 53.09 in the 400m, threw 42-10.75/13.07m in the shot put, cleared 22-8/6.91m in the long jump and 6-7.5/2.02m in the high jump and recorded a throw of 147-7/44.99m in the javelin. Shearer scored a total of 6890 points, a new personal best, to place third among collegiate participants.
At the Raleigh Relays, junior Redatu Semeon ran a 9:07.28 in the 3000m steeplechase to set a new personal record. Senior Griffin Jaworksi clocked a 29:39 to set a new personal best in the 10,000m.
Junior Amber Sudzius placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Alabama Invitational with a throw of 160-2/48.82m. In the javelin, Alyssa Kopp set a new personal best with a throw of 130-4/39.74m.
