KINGSTON, Jamaica – Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson were among the top qualifiers for the semi-finals of the women’s 100 metres at the Jamaica Olympic Trials on Thursday (30 June).
Twice Olympic champion Fraser-Pryce earned her place in the semis after winning her heat in 11.38 seconds.
The 2008 and 2012 champion was visibly limping after completing her race, as she continues to battle with a toe injury.
Remona Burchell ran 11.59 for second place, with Natasha Morrison, a finalist at last year’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing, taking third in 11.61.
Campbell-Brown was also a heat winner and she did so with a time of 11.39 to edge out Sashalee Forbes (11.41) and Gayon Evans (11.56).
Thompson used little energy to take care of business in heat 5, posting a time of 11.38 to also secure her semi-final slot.
The fastest qualifier heading into the semis was Christania Williams, who looked very impressive when clocking 11.20 to win heat 1.
Audra Segree, who is another athlete to look out for at these championships, was second to Williams in 11.31, with Schillonie Calvert getting third in 11.45.
The semi-final and final of the women’s 100m is set for Friday night.
