Kimone Green won three gold medals to help her Liberty University captured the Big South Championships title on February 23-24 at their home facilities in Lynchburg, VA.
Green, former St. Elizabeth Technical athlete and 2014 Carifta Games Under-20 400m hurdles champion, is on pace to finish her senior season with All-American honors.
She won the women’s 200m dash in 23.98, her first ever sub-24, to beat Amelia Reynolds of Radford, 24.44.
Again, in the 400m final, she beat Reynolds, 54.47 to 55.42.
In the 4x400m relay, Green led off for her team to cross the finish line in 3:43.95. Reynolds, again was second as her team could only manage 3:53.24.
“Yesterday (Feb 24) I ran my final Indoor Championship which I was blessed to obtain 3 gold medals (2 meet records) – 400m- 54.47, 200m – 23.98 & 4×400- 3:43.93,” Green wrote on facebook.
She was the meet’s Outstanding Women’s performer, leading the team to an unprecedented 224 points, as the women won nine events outright.
“All I can do is just give God thanks. All of this would be impossible without him, who gave me the strength to hold on,” she said on her social media page.
“ I wanted to give up so many times but God placed people in my life who encouraged and motivated me to strive for the best. Last year Indoor Champs was a rough one for me. Nursing groin injury etc but nonetheless I made up my mind to surpass what I did in previous years.”
Both Liberty University men’s and women’s teams swept the team titles.
Fellow Jamaican, Freshmen Jovaine Atkinson (formerly of Kingston College), won both the 60m and 60m hurdles to earn the BSC Men’s Outstanding Track Performer.
He topped the 60m dash in 6.79 and the obstacle event in 7.71.
Atkinson is also a Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner this season.
