The 2014 Jamaican High School Athletics Championships "Champs" got underway last week, together with its usual international coverage.

One such person who followed the proceedings and produced the daily EME news for worldwide subscribers, was Czech Republic's, Alfonso Jock.

Juck started off by reporting Calabar boys repeat victory and Edwin Allen's regaining of their girls title, as Jamaica’s High Schools Track and Field Championships came to an exciting end, at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday night.

He then went into the highlights, starting with World 4x400m medalist Javon Francis running a meet record 45.00 secs, to take down Usain Bolt 45.25 Class 1 boys Champs record.

In the expected 200m final, Jevaughn Minzie of Bog Walk achieved 20.50 (-0.2) ahead of 400m World Youth Champion Martin Manley 20.73. Fastest in semis and 100m winner Zharnell Hughes did not run, due to an hamstring strain.

Fast 200m times in younger categories read; 14-15 year old Jhevaughn Matherson's, 20.97 (+0.4) and 10-13 year old Tyreke Wilson's new meet record 21.72 (-2.7).

Jonielle Smith won the girls class 1 200m in 23.45 (-2.7) and the 400m girls, Yanique McNeil 52.88 and Christopher Taylor's 48.80 in the boys 10-13 old category, was also of worthy note. Taylor clocked a meet record 48.72, in the heats.

In jumps of note, Christoffer Bryan cleared a meet record in the boys high jump 2.23m and Claudette Allen sailed for 6.45m (+0.8) in the long jump.

In the final relays, both boys (class 1) races produced meet records. Calabar (without Francis) ran 39.35 ahead of Jamaica College 39.69 in the 4x100m, while St. Jago sped to 3:08.31 secs in the 4x400m.

In the girls 4x100m, a meet record was set by Edwin Allen 44.17 and a win for the same school came in the 4x400m, 3:35.70 mins.

Jaheel Hyde won the 400m hurdles in 49.49 secs on (Friday night) and duplicated the placing in the 110m hurdles (junior height) in 13.53 (-3.5).
