KINGSTON, Jamaica – The launch of the Racers Grand Prix Meeting featured the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt saying, that he will be ready to put on a show at the National Stadium on Saturday, June 11.
Bolt, recognized as the king of track and field, having won two straight Olympic Games sprint double titles and setting 100m (9.58) and 200m (19.19) world records, said “this meet will be a good one, because he (Mills) will be training us hard to make sure we are fit and at our best to compete at this Grand Prix.”
Describing the event as ''a dream of the Honorable Glen Mills" Bolt, his Racers teammates, which includes 2011 World 100m champion, Yohan Blake, Olympic 200m bronze medallist, Warren Weir and Anguillan sensation, Zharnel Hughes have confirmed for the meet, which has the status of NACAC Area Permit.
“I’m looking forward to compete at this meet, because I know I have to show and do great things for coach Mills,” added Bolt, who spoke at the launch, held at the Jamaica Pegasus on Thursday (9 March).
Former world 100m record holder, Asafa Powell, world 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams, Hansle Parchment, LaShawn Merritt, the 2013 world 400m champion and last year's one lap, world champion, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa, are just some of the other 112 athletes that will be competing in 15 events.
Also down to compete, are sprint hurdlers, Americans Queen Harrison, Jason Richardson and Lolo Jones, along with Trinidad and Tobago’s sprinters, Michelle-Lee Ahye and Kelly-Ann Baptiste.
Bolt, who is also the reigning World Championships sprint double champion, used his time at the podium to urge sponsors to join the line-up. He reminded them, ''it would be great benefit for the athletes so that there can be another Usain Bolt".
