Many of T&T’s Carifta medalists will lead their districts in this year’s National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships and LIVE Streaming, LIVE Stream will be available from Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Wednesday (April15) and Thursday (April 16) .

Perennial winners Tobago will be led by this year’s Carifta champions Tyriq Horsford, Andwuelle Wright and Akanni Hislop. Horsford won the boys under 18 javelin in St. Kitts Nevis with a record throw of 70.73m. The Signal Hill Secondary student was the top athlete at the 2013 Schools Championships. Wright won his third Carifta title when he leapt to victory in the boys under 20 long jump. Hislop sped away with the boys under 18 200m crown. Last year’s Carifta gold medalist Chelsea James as well as Khemani Roberts and Asha James who all won medals in St. Kitts Nevis, will also be in action for the multiple defending champions.
Boys under 18 shot put winner and record holder Isaiah Taylor is the main contender for St. George. Taylor took the shot put event with a new mark of 17.56m. Fellow Carifta medalists Akidah Briggs, Cheziah Phillips and Tyrel Edwards are expected to spearhead the charge from North Eastern. Briggs was the top female two years ago. Other Carifta medal-winners Jeminise Parris and Clement Campbell will also be in the line up for Port of Spain.
Over 400 athletes from the eight educational districts across the country will gather for the two days of competition. Action gets underway at 9 o’clock on each day under the theme “Stars of Tomorrow, Shining Today.”
In 2014 Tobago won its 24th straight title with 1147.50 points more than 400 points ahead of second placed North Eastern (681.50). Port of Spain (670). St. Patrick (378), Victoria (363), St. George East (341), Caroni (180) and South Eastern (169) followed behind.
