Jamaica’s Velocity Fest is now a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour series of meetings. Organized by MVP Track Club President Bruce James, the annual event has been accepted as a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meeting.

The Tour includes the Diamond League, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Challenger meetings. James, who has been running the meet for the past two seasons, said his team is “extremely pleased that the World governing body of the sport, World Athletics (formerly IAAF), has seen it fit to welcome the Velocity Fest series of events to the World Athletics Continental Tour.”
There will be two editions of the event this year. Both Velocity Fest 10 and Velocity Fest 11, which are targeting ideal competition conditions for the athletes, have been approved as the only two World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meetings in Jamaica for 2022. Velocity Fest 10 will be held on Saturday, April 2 this year at the National Stadium and Velocity Fest 11 at the same venue on Saturday, April 23, both from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Several of Jamaica’s superstars have regularly turned out for the event and James says that MVP have applied to the relevant authorities to have spectators in attendance, but only in the Grandstand.
