Elaine Thompson-Herah set a new meeting record to win the women’s 100m final at the Wanda Diamond League in Zurich.

Thompson-Herah, drawn in lane four to the left of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, trailed briefly, but it wasn’t too long before she took control. From about 50 metres, the Jamaican pulled away from the field to storm across the line in 10.65 seconds.

The mark was the Jamaican fourth sub-10.7 the season, running 10.61 to win in Tokyo, 10.54 in Eugene, and 10.64 in Lausanne.

“I am really happy and grateful. I am tired now but this is my job. I would describe this season with one word: amazing, yet it had ups and downs. I have to give God thanks that I am healthy and that I could finish such a long season,” said the Tokyo 2020 sprint double champion.

“The audience was very warm and cheerful, I wished we had so many people to cheer in Tokyo on the finish line,” she added.

Asher-Smith, who seems to be coming back into her own, ran a season 10.87 for second place.
Homegirl Ajla del Ponte ran 10.93 for third while Natasha Morrison, the other Jamaican, finished seventh in 11.10.
