World Youth 400m champion Christopher Taylor opened his season at the Corporate Area Development Meet, the third in the Digicel Grand Prix Series, on Thursday (2 March) at the Usain Bolt Track, UWI Mona.

The Calabar schoolboy star left his mark on the Class 1 200m with 20.72 seconds to beat Zharnel Hughes’ previous record of 20.80, set back in 2014.
Andel Miller of Excelsior was a distant second in 21.21.

Wolmer’s’ Jeremy Farr ran 21.68 to take Class 2 while KC’s Terrique Stennett did 22.66 to win Class 3.

Michael Stephens of Calabar was beaten in the Class 1 boys’ 100m by Malique Scott of Excelsior. Both were, however, given the same time of 10.78.
Anthony Carpenter, also of Calabar, was also beaten on the day, but by his teammate Shermar Chambers, 48.61 to 48.92 in the Class 1 boys’ 400m dash.

KC’s Rasheeda Downer put the Class 1 boys’ shot 17.00 metres for the top spot while Danielle Sloley of Immaculate threw 13.84m to take the Class 2 girls’ discus.

Carey McLeod of KC threw a record 7.29m to top the Class 1 boys’ long jump while his teammate Shacquille Lowe won with a record 7.05m in Class 2.

Calabar’s Gabriel Allen leapt 15.02 metres to take top honours in the triple jump open while his teammate Nicholloyd Brown recorded a record 6.34m to win the Class 3 boys’ long jump.

KC boys and Excelsior girls won the Digicel Grand Prix prizes for the top male and female teams respectively. Both received $250,000 for their efforts.
