Tamari Davis beat Kevona Davis over 200m at Atlanta Georgia Relays on Sunday (27 May) in Atlanta, Georgia (Results Link).
Both, Gainesville freshman Tamari and Edwin Allen Class 2 athlete Kevona, battled off the curve but the American dominated the closing stages to take the victory.
Tamari, who ran 22.44 at the Florida State Championships, won in 23.01s while Kevona, Jamaica’s High School Championships winner in 22.77s, finished second in 23.79.
“It was a great race,” Tamari said.
She continued: “My start wasn’t that good, but she (Kevona) pushed me to get off the curve because her start was wonderful. She pushed me off the curve and when I got into the straight I was working my form to make it home.”
Earlier, Tamari ran away with the 100m in 11.38s. Edwin Allen’s Tina Clayton finished second in 11.54s.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Kimberly Harris of Jackrabbit Track Club, ran 52.33s to beat Jamaican Dominique Blake, 52.75.
“It makes me feel amazing (to beat a senior athlete),” said Harris, whose winning mark was a personal best.
Calabar’s Taylor, Wilson, Russell win at Atlanta Georgia Relays
Calabar’s Christopher Taylor ran away with the 17-18 boys 200m in 20.72 while his teammate Tyreke Wilson took the men’s 100m showcase event in 10.52.
Dejour Russell of Calabar won the boys 17-18 110m hurdles in 13.75 ahead of Jahmaal Wilson of Star Trackers, 13.86s.
Tia Jones of Full Throttle Elite topped the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.15.
Calabar, 39.98 beat Alabama All-Stars 40.30 and Team Georgia 40.40 in the men’s showcase 4x100m.
Edwin Allen, with the Clayton sisters Tia and Tina, topped the female section in 44.78 over St. Jago 46.14 and Alabama All-Stars 48.17.
Reyare Thomas of Trinidad and Tobago won the women’s Olympic Development 200m in 23.29 ahead of Mauricia Prieto, 23.53 and Jamaican Ornella Livingston, 23.80.
Livingston had earlier taken the 100m in 11.75 ahead of Olamide Sokunbi, 11.90.
