Young athletes from all over Jamaica gathered at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium for the Purewater/JC/R. Danny Williams Invitational Track and Field Development Meet on Saturday (7 Jan).
The boys’ Class 1 100-meter race was the day’s most anticipated event, and it did not disappoint. Jaiden Reid of Jamaica College, in his heat, took the lead from the start, finishing with a time of 10.55 seconds and earning the gold medal. Jehlani Gordon of Wolmers Boys School, winner of heat 4, came in second overall with 10.63 seconds, followed by Nickoy Drummond of Camperdown, the heat 6 winner in 10.65.
In the boys’ Class 2 100-meter race, Tramaine Todd of Steths came out on top with a time of 10.71 seconds. Dontae Watson of Jamaica College (10.90) took second place, while Zachery Wallace of Maggotty and Gary Card of Wolmers Boys School tied for third with 10.95.
The boys’ Class 3 100-meter race went to Byron Walker of Calabar High School with a time of 11.43 seconds. RayJ Reece of St Jago took second place in 11.57 , followed by Kevon McKenzie of St Jago in third, 11.71.
In the boys’ 800m class 1 event, Franklyn Tayloe of Foga Road came in first with a time of 1:56.64. Kewarne Fletcher of Calabar High School (1:57.27) took second place, followed by Carland Chambers of St Jago (1:57.58) in third.
The boys’ 800m class 2 event was won by Yoshane Bowen of Maggotty, who finished with a time of 1:58.14. Charhon Connally also of Maggotty took second place in 2:00.51, followed by Nahashon Ruto of Kingston College in third with 2:00.96.
The women’s 400m hurdles open event was dominated by Vanessa Ward of Titchfield High, who finished with a time of 1:05.74. Halyncia Henry of Alpha took second place, followed by Deneisha Facey of Alphansus Davis in third.
The Class 2 boys’ 400-meter hurdles was won by Taj-Oneil Gordon of Kingston College with a time of 55.72 seconds. Junior Gallimore of Calabar High School took second place, followed by Mario Birch of Cornwall College in third.
