St. Jago High track and field teams have withdrawn from Central Champs, now on at Kirkvine Sports Complex in Manchester. The meet started on Monday at Vere, but will be at Kirkvine Tuesday and Wednesday (25 Feb).
Both teams withdrew for various reasons.
Danny Hawthorne, the head coach of St. Jago boys, said instructions were given to enter the team, but “someone (from management team) took it on himself not to enter the team saying the boys were too tired.”
Meanwhile, Keilando Goburn, who is the head coach for the girls’ team, said the surface at Kirkvine is the reason for them staying away.
“Last year when we participated at Central Championships most of out athletes got injured as I think the surface at Kirkvine is unfit to keep a Meet at this level so late in the season,” he said.
