Martin Manley has decided to move into the professional ranks of track and field.
Manley, the 2013 World Youth Championships and World Youth Olympics 400m champion, has decided to forego his final year at St. Jago High School, to move into the professional arena.
He has joined the Cameron Blazers training outfit and will be coached by Bert Cameron, Jamaica’s first ever world champion.
Cameron, who spoke to TVJ, said a friend told him about Manley’s interest in joining his group.
Coach to several national representatives, he said he told the friend, “don’t encourage, but don’t discourage him at the same time.”?The 1983 World 400m champion said his reason for saying that was “because I’m a part of St. Jago High School and I would never do anything to disrupt the programme there,”
“…but he has decided that this is what he wants to do and I would be a fool not to accept this boy,” added Cameron.
Cameron Blazer is also the home of former 400m national record holder Jermaine Gonzales.
According to Manley he wants to be the first to win World Youth, Youth Olympic and World Junior 400m titles.
“It is my goal to try and complete the treble, World Youth, World Junior and World Youth Olympic titles.”
“So I am just going there to work hard with Jaheel because I believe he will be my training partner sometime in the season, and with him I will get there (win World Juniors),” added Manley, who is now a student at UWI.
