St Andrew are the early leaders after Friday’s (20 May) opening day of the JTA/Sagicor National Athletics Championships on at the National Stadium.

They lead the points standing with 69.5 points ahead of St Catherine 43.5, Kingston 38, Portland 33 and Clarendon 23.

Manchester, 22, Westmoreland, 19, St. Thomas, 17, St. Elizabeth, 14, St. Ann, 12, Trelawny, four, and St. Mary, one, are the other teams.

Nemoy Cockett of St Andrew was the day’s only double winner. He cleared 1.75m to win the boys’ open high jump and threw 13.15m to take the boys’ shot put open.

Janealia Brown of Kingston leapt 5.26m to beat her teammate Shantalee Gayle, 5.00m, for the girls’ long jump open title.

Dantea Pollack of St. Andrew won the boys’ long jump with a leap of 5.59m over St. Elizabeth’s Rodrique Lexford, 5.65m.

Bryanna Johnson and Tatyana Crawford, both from St. Andrew, cleared the same height – 1.40m for first and second in the girls’ high jump open. Tori Ann Davis of St. Catherine also cleared the same height for the bronze medal.

Kishauna Smith of Kingston topped the girls’ shot put open with 7.78m to beat Tiffany Psalms of Clarendon, 7.69m.

Sue-ann McPherson of Clarendon was the girls’ U9 cricket ball throw winner with 25.56m while Kamar Whittle of St. Catherine won the boys’ final with 34.29m.
