BEIJING, China – Jamaica Kaliese Spencer and Janieve Russell both finished their 400 metres hurdles semifinals heat in second here on Monday at the 15th IAAF World Championships inside the Bird Nest Stadium.

Spencer went out very fast and made up the stagger on most of her rivals at the 200 metres mark but tire considerably in the homestretch to be caught by Sara Slott Peterson of Denmark, who did 54.34 seconds with Spencer doing 54.45 as Shamier Little of the United States of America finished third in 54.86.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Sparkle McNight ended fifth in 56.21.

Russell was involved in a duel with Zuzana Hejnova of Czech Republic at the top of the homestretch, but the latter pulled away to win in 54.24 with Russell doing 54.78.
