Jamaica big 4 at Prefontaine Classic

The Prefontaine Classic, the ninth stop in the Wanda Diamond League Series, will have a loaded women’s 100m field. The top three women from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be present, so too is American speeder Sha’Carri Richardson.

Elaine Thompson-Herah, who created history by becoming the first woman to win a back-to-back sprint double at the Olympic Games, headlines the women’s 100m field.

The Jamaican is in the form of her life. She ran personal best times of 10.61 and 21.53 at the Tokyo 2020 games.

Doha 2019 world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, second to Thompson-Herah in Tokyo, is also set to party. So too is Shericka Jackson, the Tokyo 2020 third-place finisher, who has a personal best of 10.76.
Briana Williams, who led off Jamaica to gold in the 4x100m title, also will be apart of the super Prefontaine Classic showdown.

Richardson, however, may draw more attention because of her comments on social media after missing the Olympic Games because of a one month ban.

Marie Josée TA LOU will also be at the start.

Canadian Andre De Grasse will headline the Prefontaine Classic men’s 100m. De Grasse won 200m gold and 100m bronze in Tokyo.

De Grasse will face six Americans – Justin Gatlin, Ronnie Baker, Trayvon Bromell, Tokyo 2020 silver medal winner Fred Kerley, Michael Norman, and Isiah Young.

South African Akani Simbine completed the line-up.

  5. Those Jamaican ladies she will run against are proven world and olympics champions with medals . She can get a medal one day after the Jamaican assassins give up track & field .

  6. Racing for fun…is different from competition….or to prove who is!…when our 4 athletes went to Olympic they all have objective…when Elaine said she have nothing more to prove…dont think for a minute it was reference to any of her Jamaica competitors….I think it was more to critics of her will never win a Olympic medal and other critics…so despite speculation of her and fellow teammate not being friends…wasn’t anything of hatred….now what’s the purpose of this race?…to sharpen her skills…or to see if she can beat them…or if she were at the Olympic what medal she would get? ….beaten any of them now wouldn’t prove a ting…because they are in recuperating mode…for what next to come…and shelly preparation to give of yourself before retirement…hence that why she must have wanted to win so bad.

  9. The Big Four have nothing to prove. They are all a bit tired after a long season. They just want their paychecks, which they most certainly have earned.
