Jamaican hurdler Janeive Russell said she is “really pleased” after today’s world leading performance at the Rome Diamond League.
"I just wanted to finish the race injury free because the really important day will be at the Olympics,” she told the Gleaner.
Russell, the 2012 World Junior champion, won the women’s 400-metre hurdles in a world leading 53.96 seconds.
The 22-year-old dominated the event from start to finish to easily beat Wenda Nel of South Africa, 54.61.
Multiple Diamond League winner Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica finished sixth in 55.51.
“I'm putting in the work with Stephen Francis, I have great teammates, friends and family motivating me and that's really pushing me right now," said Russell.
