Aryamanya Rodgers’ record breaking 2000-metre steeplechase run handed Kingston College (KC) the lead at the end of day 3 of the 2018 Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships. The five-day event, Champs, is being staged at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Rodgers, who took control of the race from very early, stretched his lead to cross the finish line in 5:49.46secs, breaking the 2016 old mark of 5:53.14, set by St. Jago’s Thaleetio Green.
And as the experts predicted, Calabar High’s Rivaldo Marshall, who worked hard to catch Rodgers, was second across the line in 5:57.46, and Tarees Rhoden, also of KC, third in 6:01.70.
Kc now moved into the lead with 69 points, just five ahead of Calabar, 64, and Jamaica College (JC), 36.
In the girls’ open event, Edwin Allen finished 1-3 with Aneisha Ingram, 7:07.02 and Jeima Davis, 7:17.89. Samantha Pryce of Holmwood came in-between with 7:09.35.
At the end of six finals scored on the girls’ side, Edwin Allen took over the lead with 45 points, ahead of Hydel, 32, and Holmwood, 29.
