GLASGOW – Track and Field superstar Usain Bolt competed for first time this year. The men’s 4x100m heats saw the season’s debut of Usain Bolt. He anchored Jamaica to the win in 38.99, the 6th fastest time of the heats. Kimari Roach got injured during the lead leg but kept on going.
"Salute Kimmari Roach despite being injured completed his leg..Good run by Forte and Ashmeade to get the Baton around," Bolt wrote on his twitter.
Trinidad & Tobago (38.33) and England (38.78) were the other heat winners. Canada (38.41) were also quick. Bahamas achieved national record 38.52.
Jamaica women’s team with Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce on anchor clocked 42.44 for the fastest time going into the final. England were next best with 43.33 after a bad last exchange.
In the women’s 4x400m semi-finals, England (3:27.88), Nigeria (3:28.28) and Jamaica (3:28.29) were the three fastest.
On the men’s side the three fastest were England (3:03.01), Jamaica (3:03.47) and Bahamas (3:03.71). 5 teams were disqualified among them Kenya.
Javelin favourites Keshorn Walcott (85.28 NR) of Trinidad & Tobago and Julius Yego (82.83) of Kenya threw furthest in the men’s javelin qualification, both with their first round throws.
