Jamaica's first all throws athletics meet, the Big Shot Invitational, will be staged for the tenth time this Saturday (18 Jan). Sponsored this year by JN Fund Managers, the Invitational moves to a new home at the UWI Usain Bolt facility and Big Shot founder Michael Vassell is expecting the nation's throwers to congregate and compete. 

The tenth anniversary celebrations blast off on Friday evening at 6 with a presentation by the outstanding coach Don Babbit. The American, who guided star World Champion shot putters Adam Nelson and Reece Hoffa, will essay Hoffa's' Evolution from Unknown to Champion' at the Technique Lab, 7 Tangerine Place, Kingston. Hoffa, who along with his coach, is set to arrive in Jamaic and Friday to attend the Big Shot meet on Saturday.

American Reese won the shot put in the 2006 World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Moscow, and followed up with World Championships outdoor title in Osaka, Japan in 2007. He is the Olympic Games bronze medallist.

"We're always trying to elevate the knowledge of the Jamaican thrower", said Vassell, "and Don can undoubtedly speak from a platform of accomplishment and experience."
