Former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell won his first race in over a year in Brazil on Sunday. Powell clocked a fast 10.02 (0.6m/s wind) to win the men’s 100m at the Grande Premio Brasil Caixa Governo do Pará Belém
Powell beat on his way top victory Americans Marvin Bracy 10.14 and Dentarius Locke 10.17. Ramon Gittens of Barbados 10.24 and Antoine Adams of St. Kitts and Nevis 10.25 were 4th and 5th respectively.
Powell, who surrounding by several journalists after the race, posted on his social media page, “0-100 real quick.”
However, Adams won the 200m in 20.79 ahead of Murice Mitchell of USA 20.93.
Tabarie Henry of US Virgin Islands was 7th in the men’s 400m in 50.12.
In the field, Jamaican Demar Forbes 7.55m was 4th in the men’s long jump, won by Brazilian Mauro Vinicius da Silva 7.74.
Barbara Pierre won the women’s 100m in 11.29 over fellow American Tiffany Townsend (11.39), the 200m winner in 23.17.
The Caribbean other win came in the women’s shot put when Cleopatra Borel threw 18.29m to beat China’s Natalia Ducó 17.55
