Kingston, Jamaica – The jostle for points will continue on day two of the 38th INSPORTS Primary Schools Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
With no points available on today’s opening day it was all about teams positioning themselves going into the next rounds.
Though it’s still early days, this could be one of the closest championships in a long while based on early signs displayed in class one and two 4x100m relays and 200m for boys and girls. The 800m open for both categories and the class three sprint relays and 150m sprints all remain an open affair at the conclusion of the preliminaries.
In the individual events, defending champions Naggo Head alongside Rousseau, Harbour View and Lyssons are expected to pick-up points after qualifying for the final in the girls’ cricket ball throw Open and the boys’ long jump Open.
However, Port Morant’s Tavian Wilson is expected to challenge the record of 5.26m in the boys’ long jump after leading all qualifiers into tomorrow’s final with a leap of 5.22m.
Two more finals will be contested on day two, namely the girls’ cricket ball throw in which Lyssons’ Kecia King is the favourite and the girls’ high jump.
