MELBOURNE, Australia – Olympic champion Sally Pearson confirmed her withdrawal from the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
Set to undergo further surgery on Tuesday on the wrist she injured after a horror fall, the Commonwealth hurdles champion and national record holder has her sights set on 2016, with the Olympic Games her greatest motivation.
“I’m not going to the World Championships. It’s very disappointing for me, but I guess I haven’t had a break since 2003, my first Australian team. I think it will be a very good mental and physical break for me leading into the Olympics next year,” Pearson said.
Pearson also injured her calf during the same race in Rome and describes her reaction to the injury as one of shock more than pain.
