O’Hara completes sprint double at Junior Trials

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Michael O’Hara completed the Under-20 men’s sprint double on Sunday’s final day of the Supreme Ventures/Jamaica Junior Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium.

O’Hara, who topped the 100m field on Saturday in 10.43secs (-2.6m/s wind), returned on Sunday to take the 200m in 20.96secs (-2.0m/s).

In the 200m final, Jevaughn Minzie of Bog Walk led into the straight, but eased up soon as he was overtaken by O’Hara. Minzie eased across the line in 21.57secs while third place Shamar Brown of Cameron Blazers did 22.10.

Junelle Bromfield of STETHS, Rochelle Frazer, O’Brien Wasome of Jamaica College (JC), Odaine Lewis and Shevan Parks also competed double victories.

Broomfield won the Under-18 girls 800/1500m double in 2:14.94 and 4:54.84 (Saturday) while Parks of Bellefield did the same in the boys section, 1:55.64 and 4:08.90.

In the field, Fraser took Sunday’s Under-20 women’s shot put with a throw of 13.81m to add to her discus the day before – 43.83m while Wasome’s double came on Sunday in the Under-18 boys long jump 7.46m and triple jump 15.51m.

Lewis got his double in the long/triple jumps, 7.25m and 15.70.

Meanwhile, Christoffe Bryan of Wolmer’s cleared 2.20m to take the men’s Under-20 high jump; Tiffany James of Papine ran 53.69 to beat her senior competitors in the Under-20 women 400m, Martin Manley of St. Jago topped the Under-20 men’s 400m field in 46.24, Natalliah Whyte of St. Jago also stepped up in class with 23.77 (-3.6m/s) to beat the seniors in the Under-20 women’s 200m final.
