St. Lucian athletes enjoyed moderate results from last weekend’s NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships.
Tarik Xavier of Butler CC was 3d (1:57.40, a shade off his PR) in the 800m, 11th (2:40.05, PR) in the 1000m, and he ran the Distance Medley and 4×800.
Santino Kenyi of Cloud Country won the 800m in 1:55.17; Andrew Kibert of Hutchinson topped the 1,000m in 2:24.72 and Highland took the 4x800m in 7:57.24
Zadie St. Louis had a busy weekend. The Butler CC freshman was 3d (1:38.95) in the women’s 600m, 2d (2:25.85) in 800m, and led her team off in the 4×800 and Distance Medley, in both of which they finished 2d.
Shanique Masters, also of Butler, won the 600m in 1:35.99.
The 4x800m finished second in 9:58.51 behind Cowley College, 9:47.09 and the distance medley, again second behind the same team – 12:30.89 to 12:40.68.
Abdel Girard was 8th for Cowley College in his first full heptathlon, scoring 2495 points. His best result by position was in the 1000m, where he ran 3:16.04 (516 points) to finish 6th. His best score was 560 (8.00 seconds) in the 60m.
Andrew Betton won the event with 4,658 points ahead of his Cloud Country teammate Marcquice Cade 4,628
Jeannelle Scheper cleared 1.90m to win the gold medal in women’s high jump today at the Netherlands athletics championships.
Giovani Alfred ran 7.75 seconds to win the men’s 55m hurdles for Washington University at St Louis in the Illinois College Hilltop Classic.
Saint Lucians ran for Essex CC at Armory Last Chance. Samara Edward was 4th in women’s 500m (1:18.86); Carl Drakes FS in men’s 60 and 12th (22.68) in men’s 200; Shelton St. Rose 29th men’s 400 (52.93), 24th 200 (23.08).
At the VA Tech Challenge, competing in the 600m, Virginia Tech’s Eldon Phillips earned the first collegiate win of his career, clocking a time of 1:19.91.
Kamathe Daniel competed for Alcorn State at the SWAC Champs this week, in the Birmingham CrossPlex, Birmingham, AL. He was 21st in men’s 60m (7.17) and 30th in the 200 (23.49 PB)
Kevin Norville for the men’s triple jump WIN at the Nebraska Tune Up on Friday in Lincoln. 14.73m, an NCAA provisional mark, competing for Washburn University.
