Fayetteville, Ark. – In the first postseason event of the year, No. 29 Mississippi State cross country grabbed a fourth-place finish among the conference’s best at SEC Championships Friday (28 October).
This marks the third-consecutive season that the MSU women have finished in the Top-5 at the SEC Championships, after doing so only twice from 2006-2013.
MSU was paced by sophomore Shannon Fair, who finished 20th overall with a time of 21:10.1. Just behind Fair was senior Rhianwedd Price, coming in at 26th with a time of 21:19.3.
Sophomore Antonia Hehr grabbed a 29th place finish, running a time of 21:23.8 while freshman Stephanie Peterson placed 33rd with a time of 21:27.2. Peterson narrowly missed being named to the All-Freshman team, running the eighth best time among all newcomers. Senior Ffion Price rounded out MSU’s top-five finishers, placing 39th overall with a time of 21:39.6.
“After finishing second last year, we would obviously like to do better than fourth,” MSU coach Houston Franks said. “But this is the just the beginning of the postseason, and we have Regionals coming up in a few weeks. We are going to need to run a lot better if we want to make a second straight trip to Nationals.”
The Bulldogs were one of three ranked teams in the highly competitive event, joined by No. 10 Arkansas and No. 16 Ole Miss.
