Miguel Francis, according to reports, wants to switch allegiance to the United Kingdom.
The 21-year-old sprinter, who trains with Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake in Kingston, represented Antigua and Barbuda at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He, however, was unable to run the 200m because of an injury.
On Thursday, the Antigua Daily Observer reported that a source ‘extremely’ close to Francis advised of the switch.
The source, the newspaper said, disclosed that the Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA) is in receipt of Francis’ transfer of allegiance request.
However, when contacted, the president of the ABAA Everton Cornelius did not confirm or deny the reports.
According to the newspaper, Francis, who was born in Montserrat, was asked via his facebook page, but only said, “wow, news travel fast in Antigua lol.”
