KINGSTON, Jamaica — The qualifying round of the men’s 100 metres has been completed in the morning session at the 2019 Jamaica National Championships at the National Stadium on Thursday.
Seven men, led by MVP’s Chad Walker, advanced to join the list of sprinters who will be re-seeded for the quarter-final round later this evening.
Walker finished second in heat 4 of the qualifying round behind Gilbert Hainuca (10.33) who trains with the MVP group, but is a native of Namibia and is ineligible to advance.
Walker clocked 10.36 seconds, the quickest among the Jamaicans advancing and he pulled with him Kemar Green of the University of Technology who ran 10.45 for third place.
Another UTECH sprinter, Ojamu Graham made progress after he posted a time of 10.40 seconds to win the second heat, which qualified three athletes for the next round.
Also advancing from heat two were Kevaun Rattray, who ran 10.45 for second and MVP’s Dushawn Mighty, who stopped the clock at 10.51.
The other two athletes booking quarter-final spots were Okeem White of G.C. Foster College with a time of 10.42 secs, which he used to win heat 6 and Shivnarine Smalling, who ran 10.48 to take the fifth heat.
