GAINESVILLE, Fla. – St. Lucia sprinter Julien Alfred continued to assert her world-class status as she shattered her previous personal best and St. Lucian national record in an epic performance at the 2023 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday (14 April).

Alfred, the NCAA Indoor 200m national champion, dominated the collegiate section of the women’s 200-meter race, clocking in at a world-leading 21.91 seconds (+1.8 m/s) at the James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville.

Her performance not only set a new track record, but also elevated her to the No. 2 spot among collegiate women’s sprinters in history, behind former Kentucky sprinter and USA champion Abby Steiner who holds the top spot with a time of 21.80 seconds.
Jamaican Kevona Davis runs 22.47
In the first of the 12 heats, Alfred won convincingly, finishing ahead of McKenzie Long of Ole Miss, who posted a time of 22.31 seconds. Rhasidat Adeleke and Kevona Davis from Texas also posted impressive times, finishing with times of 22.34 and 22.47 seconds, respectively.
Alfred’s winning time of 21.91 seconds is a new program record for Texas, while Lanae Thomas, Alfred’s Texas teammate, won the second section with a wind-aided 22.30 (+3.6 m/s), making her the second-fastest overall.
Alfred’s impressive showing at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational has solidified her status as one of the world’s top sprinters, and her continued success is a testament to her dedication and hard work.
