TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Freshman Jeremiah Green of the University of Alabama track and field team has been named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Green, in his first collegiate competition, made a huge impact in his collegiate debut by breaking the facility record and meet record with a winning leap of 16.01 meters (52 feet, 6.50 inches) at the Auburn Invitational, the fifth-longest triple jump in Alabama history.

Green's winning mark came on his third jump. He fouled on his first attempt, went 15.61 meters on his second try, and then uncorked the winner on his third jump. After a foul, he had a leap of 15.77 before fouling on his sixth attempt. A two-time Florida Class 3A state champion in the triple jump at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Fla., Green was twice the New Balance Outdoor national champion in the triple jump. His triple jump of 52-2, which was the longest leap in the nation in 2013, was his personal best in the event prior to Saturday's effort.

Green and the Alabama track and field team continue action this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25) at the Rod McCravey Invitational at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
