Jamaica’s two-day Junior Track and Field Championships has been postponed.

The Championships, which was set for Saturday, June 17 and 18 at the National Stadium, was rescheduled because the island is under “Flash Flood Warning”

The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, Trelawny and St Ann.

According to the warning, which remains effective until 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

“A large Area of Disturbed Weather and a Tropical Wave now moving across Jamaica, continue to influence weather conditions across the island. Although the Tropical Wave is expected to move away from the island later today, the larger Area of Disturbed Weather is expected to linger across the western Caribbean through to Sunday. Atmospheric conditions will therefore remain unstable and deteriorating weather conditions are expected to continue over Jamaica through to tomorrow morning,” said the Meteorological Service of Jamaica in a release.

Garth Gayle, Honorary Secretary of the JAAA, said the event will now be held next week.

“A date and time will be decided on next week by the committee when they look into all the pros and cons,” he said, while pointing out that some athletes are having graduation and some would have already arrived in the island from overseas.

Jamaica Senior Championships is set for next week, June 22 to 25, also at the National Stadium.
