Jamaica women win Tokyo 2020 4x4 bronze

tokyo 2020 alertsJamaica ended Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with bronze in the women’s 4x400m relay and nine medals overall. The black, green and gold team finished fourth on the track and field medal table with four gold, two silver and three bronze.

The USA topped the standing with seven gold, 12 silver and seven bronze for 26 medals. Italy five gold and Poland four gold, two silver and three bronze finished second and third respectively.

The quartet of Roneisha McGregor, who led off with 50.67, Janieve Russell, 50.04, Shericka Jackson, who came in for Stephenie-Ann McPherson, 50.18 and Candice McLeod, who split 50.35 on anchor, finished 3rd in 3:21.24.

The USA won the event by almost four seconds, with their all-star team clocking 3:16.85 – the fastest time in the world since 1993. It’s also the fifth-fastest time in history and the third-fastest by a US quartet.

McLaughlin and Mu were winning their second gold medal of the games. Muhammad earlier picked up the 400m hurdles silver, and Felix will walk away with one gold and a bronze from the 400m.

The medal is also the 11th career Olympic medal for Felix, extending her record tally.

Poland set a national record of 3:20.53 to take silver.

In the men’s 4x400m, Jamaica’s team of Demish Gaye, Christopher TAYLOR, Jaheel Hyde and Nathon Allen finished 6th in 2:58.76.
Trinidad and Tobago with Deon Lendore, Jereem Richards, Dwight ST Hillaire and Machel Cedenio finished 8th in 3:00.85.

USA’s quartet of Michael Cherry, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin won in 2:55.70 – the fourth-fastest time in history.
The Netherlands produced a huge national record of 2:57.18 to take silver. At the same time, Botswana broke their own African record from the heats to take bronze in 2:57.27.
