Tahesia Harrigan-Scott was the 2019 recipient of the British Virgin Islands Athletics Association Life Time Achievement Awards.

Harrigan-Scott, who won bronze in the women’s 60m at the Valencia 2008 World Indoor Championships, collected her award at the BVI’s gala on the weekend (28 Dec).

She first thanked those who supported her throughout her career.
She singled out her mom as her biggest fan. “You made this dream possible for me,” she said of her mother.

She also mentioned her sister and coach/life partner.

“I hope I was an inspiration to you,” she told the audience, which included guest speaker Sherone Simpson.

Harrigan-Scott also spoke of her teammates, describing them as “more like a family.”
“It’s not business, we go out there and have fun. We supported each other” said Harrigan-Scott.

She left with them and upcoming athletes her words of encouragement. “Continue to be strong, continue to believe in yourselves, continue to embrace the trials and obstacles,” she said while adding “those are the things make you the athletes you are going to become.”

She continued: “And even if it’s not the exceptional athletes you dream of being, it’s going to establish you into an amazing individual.”

Harrigan-Scott won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.
