Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, one of the world’s most decorated female sprinters, is confirmed for this weekend’s Cayman Invitational.
The Cayman Invitational will be held on June 2 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
The two-time Olympic Games champion is set to make her first international appearance since giving birth in 2017. She won back-to-back Olympic Games 100m titles in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. She added bronze at the Rio 2016 Games, becoming the first woman in history to win 100m medals at three consecutive Olympic Games.
“We are so excited to have the great Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with us at this year’s Invitational,” said Meet Director Cydonie Mothersill.
“The consummate professional and sportswoman, Shelly is so gifted yet so humble with such a warm personality. Fans are definitely in for a treat, and we wish her all the best in her mission to return again to the top spot in women’s track and field,” added the former Cayman Islands’ sprint star.
Sherome Simpson is also in the Cayman Invitational
Tynia Gaither (BAH), Sherone Simpson (JAM), Jena Prandini (USA), Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM), Hannah Cunliffe (USA), Aaliyah Brown (USA), Semoy Hackett (TRI) and Schillonie Calvert (JAM) make up the field for the women’s 100m
Fraser-Pryce is the first female sprinter to win three world 100m titles in 2009, 2013 and 2015.
The Pocket Rocket is also the only female athlete to reign as both world and Olympic champion on two occasions, 2008 Olympic and 2009 world titles, and then the 2012 Olympic and 2013 world titles.
In 2013, the year she won the IAAF Female Athlete of the Year, she became the first female sprinter to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4×100m at the World Championships. She is also the first woman to hold all major world sprint titles, Olympic Games in 2012, World Championships in 2013 and World Indoor in 2014.
American, World and Olympic 400m gold medallist LaShawn Merritt and former World 100m record holder Asafa Powell, will also be in the Cayman Islands for the meet.
