The Minister of Youth and Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna, MP, has announced the nominees for the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards for Excellence.

The Prime Minister’s Youth Awards for Excellence are presented to young Jamaicans between the ages of 15 and 24 for outstanding achievement in agriculture, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, international achievement, journalism, youth in service, leadership, sports and youth work (which is also awarded to organisations).

41 young people and organisations have been nominated for awards.

Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, will present the Awards on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at a ceremony at Jamaica House beginning at 6pm.

The track and field athletes are World Youth 100m hurdles champion and world record holder Yanique Thompson and Martin Manley, who won gold in the 400m at the same World Youth Championships.

Also listed is Javon Francis, who helped Jamaica to silver in the men's 1600m relay, at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.
