BEIJING, China – 
Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller won her 400 metres semifinals heat but Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson was the fastest from the Caribbean, which had five athletes making the final at the World Championships here inside the Bird Nest Stadium.
Miller and Christine Day was neck and neck heading into the homestretch but pulled away to win in 50.12 seconds with Day doing 50.82 and Libania Grenot of Italy 51.14 for third.
In semifinals heat two Jamaica’s Stephenie-Ann McPherson failed to keep the lead in the final 50 metres as Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain eased past has to win in 50.16 seconds. McPherson was timed in 50.32 with Phyllis Francis of the United States of America finishing third in 50.50.
In the final semifinals heat Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson fought back gallantly to catch American Alyson Felix but failed. Felix won in 49.89 seconds, with Jackson doing a personal best of 50.03 as Jamaica’s Novlene Williams-Mills finishing third in 50.47.
Miller, Day, McPherson, Jackson and Williams-Mills all advanced to the final.
